OPPORTUNITY | Communications & Programs Associate

The NJCHS is seeking an Associate to work in close partnership with the Executive Director raising awareness of the important role that the judicial system plays in our society. The successful candidate will bring their creativity, attention to detail, and passion to the work of the Society by designing outreach and other materials, building and supporting our programs, and strategizing additional ways to promote the work of the Society. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Outreach & Design:

  • Maintain WordPress website, including creating and supporting webpages for events, programs, and fundraising initiatives
  • Design print and digital collateral materials
  • Create newsletters to send to members
  • Generate and publish content to social media platforms
  • Oversee the production process for the biannual publication of our journal, Western Legal History, including organizing copy flow, formatting, proofreading, and identifying photographs to accompany articles
  • Strategize additional opportunities to raise the profile of the Society

Programs:

  • Act as liaison with other organizations and speakers to coordinate events
  • Provide logistical support for hybrid (virtual & in-person) programming, including hosting Zoom Webinars, managing registration and communications to attendees, and CLE credit process
  • Assist with planning and organization for large events, including the Society’s annual fundraising Gala

Development & Administrative Support:

  • Coordinate tracking and reporting of payments, sponsorships, and membership dues
  • Track project budgets for programming and fundraising
  • Maintain accounts payable/receivable and compile other relevant financial materials
  • Maintain membership database (Little Green Light) updating and tracking memberships

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a project coordination and communications role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with a variety of technology systems, particularly WordPress, Google Suite, Zoom, Microsoft Word macros, Excel, Mailchimp, and basic video editing software
  • Talent for graphic design (Canva)
  • Working with nonprofits, foundations, and/or government agencies is a plus
  • Experience with CRM systems is a plus (LGL, Salesforce, etc.)

Personal Qualities

  • The NJCHS has a very small staff, so the successful candidate will be a collaborative and flexible team player
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail
  • Researches solutions to troubleshoot challenges independently
  • Successfully manages several projects at once
  • Eager to develop new strategies and solutions to streamline workflow
  • Familiarity with the role of the judiciary is a plus

Position Details

This is a full-time position. The NJCHS has a hybrid workplace model, with staff working both remotely and in our office in San Francisco. For the right candidate, the position could remain fully remote. The Communications and Programs Associate will be expected to assist with some evening programming and travel around the Ninth Circuit for events.

Start date: August 2024

Salary range: $40,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience
